Revival is really an Old Testament word. Of course, the concept of revival is a New Testament concept, and that is the spiritual renewal of God’s people. Revival, or renewal, is about God’s people repenting of their backsliddings and turning back to God with their whole heart. In a word, it is repentance. Revival never comes to satisfied people or to satisfied churches. That is why there are many revival meetings, but precious little revival. So how does a Christian best pray for revival? He asks God to show him the sin in his life and to give him the grace to become genuinely sorry about it. We call this, “brokenness.” It doesn’t take everybody, but I am unware of anytime in history when a sweeping revival has taken place among God’s people that did not involve a brokenness among some of the people.
