Our worship of God cannot really surpass our knowledge of God. For this reason, it is imperative that we seek to know Him. It is entirely possible for a misguided person to attempt to create God in man’s image, in other words, to imagine God as being consistent with human preference, rather than how He has revealed Himself to be. The truth is, no person could ever imagine God to be better than He is, but what people mistakingly do, is imagine God compromising His holiness in order to make an exception for their unrighteousness. It is possible to have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. My goal as a Christian is to know God more intimately, so I can love Him more completely, so I can obey Him without hesitation. My goal as a pastor is to lead others to do that same thing. This knowledge is more than theory, it’s experienced. It happens, as we know what the Bible says, then as we so put our faith in what God has revealed to us, that we make the choices of our life based on that revelation. Then, we worship God according to knowledge, in Spirit and truth.
