Repentance

It was the preaching theme of John The Baptist, it was the first public message that Jesus had for mankind, it was the first message that the 12 preached when Jesus sent them out two by two, and it is a universal call to all men everywhere.  Repentance is more than simply turning around, that is reformation.  Repentance is more than being sorry for your wrong doings, that is remorse.  Repentance is a change of mind that is so deep, so complete, that the result is a deep sorrow and a complete and lasting change of actions.  Sinful actions is the symptom of that which is contrary to God, but a sinful heart is the cause.  Repentance is a necessary part of believing on Christ.  In Luke 16, the man hell reasoned that if someone from the dead would warn his five brothers, that they would then repent.  People in hell know the necessity of repentance.  Only the powerful workings of the Holy Spirit can effect that deep down change in our life that comes by way of repentance.  We cannot work up our repentance, it is granted to us by God.  When we come to a realization of wrong in our life, we are sensing the good work of God, who is leading us toward repentance.   Romans 2:4 says, “The goodness of God leads you to repentance.”
