Why would anybody be afraid to hear the gospel? There is no real logical reason, yet the fact remains, some people avoid the message of the gospel as if it were something that was going to do them great harm. In Acts 24, a man named Felix, a government official, talked with the Apostle Paul about righteousness, self-control, and judgement to come, and the Bible says that he was afraid and sent Paul away. Was the gospel an offence to him? Was it a stumblingblock? It certainly didn’t serve him as the power of God unto salvation, because it is only that to those who believe.
