If You Think You Stand…

The Bible says, “If you think you stand, take heed lest you fall.”  This is not talking about the eternal destiny of our soul, but it is talking about daily condition of our testimony.  This past week, it was reported that Ted Haggard, leader of the 30 million member of The National Association Of Evangelicals, has admitted to being a liar and a deceiver.  This is heartbreaking for him, but even moreso for the overall effect it has on the testimony of the church to the world.  Like Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker, and too many others to name, I’m sure this man started out with a sincere heart, wanting his life to count for God.  What happened?  It is the same thing that is happening to multitudes of Christians, who think they can successfully cover their sins.  The Bible plainly says that the person who covers his sins will not prosper, yet Christians are repeatedly duped into thinking they can do it, in spite of what the Bible says.  These things do not happen overnight.  When a Christian falls, whether he be leader or layman, it is because he has already been tilted in that direction.   How the devil must celebrate when Christians refuse to confess and forsake their sin.  Saddest of all, is that lost man out there who says, “They’re all that way.”
