Confidence in the Lord has great reward, but too much confidence in self can bring disaster.  We are told that if we think we stand, we are to take heed lest we fall.  Jesus said, “Without me, you can do nothing.”  There is a long trail of people who became overly confident in their own ability, or in their own strength, only to find that they were not as able, or as strong, as they had thought they were.  The Psalmist said, “I will lift up my eyes unto the hills.  From whence comes my help?  My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.  He will not allow your foot to be moved, He who keeps you will not slumber.”  God’s people are to be people of great confidence, but their confidence is not in their own abilities, but in the Lord.
