I am certain that we live far beneath our privileges as Christians. We fail to understand what God has provided for us in Christ. For example, 2 Peter 1:3 says that God “has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness through our knowledge of Christ.” Now, we don’t just automatically know what we’ve been given, but we have to learn what God has given us in Christ through our understanding of the Bible. The next verse, verse 4, speaks of God’s “great and precious promises.” We find those in the Bible, and upon understanding what they are, we accept them by faith. How do we really know that we’re born again and going to heaven when we die? Because we feel it? What if one day we don’t feel it? We know we’re saved, because God gave us a great and precious promise that whosoever believes on Him has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from unto life, (John 5:24.) How do we know God is going to be right there with us when we go into that surgery? We know because we have been given the great and precious promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us, (Hebrews 13:5.) How do we know that we are going to be able to meet our financial needs in the days to come? How do we keep from worrying over things that might happen in the future? How do we have confidence that our relationships are going to be lasting? We know all these things the same way, God’s great and precious promises. It has already been given! Understand it, claim it, enjoy it.
