A few days ago, I was talking to somebody who did not know that the will of God and the word of God are one and the same. They are.
There are several statements in the word of God concerning God’s will for His people. We often refer to that as the general will of God, that is, God’s will for all of His people. Here is something that I have come to understand: when we understand and live in God’s general will, He has a way of moving us into His specific will for our lives. It just kind of happens, when we live in the general will of God. It is like a sixth sense, which is in reality the leading of the Holy Spirit, that enables us to just know what we should do.
Matthew 4:4, Jesus said, “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” We are to live by the word of God, and another way of saying it is to say, we are to live in the word of God.
Psalm 1, among other places in the Bible, speaks of the value of meditating in the word of God. Philippians 4:8 speaks of the value of placing our thoughts on the right kinds of things, which are rooted in the word of God.
If you are living in the word of God, how can you possibly fail? Who, in the Bible, failed while trusting God and following after Him? No one in the Bible, and no one in all of history. Joshua 1:8 says that if God’s word is in us, in the sense that we live in it, that God will prosper us and give us good success.
