Faith is the essential and necessary element to receive anything from God, according to James 1:7.
There are three questions of importance as we think about asking God for something:
Can God Do It? The answer is “Yes!” Luke 1:37 says, “For with God, nothing shall be impossible.” The only limitations on God are those which He has imposed upon Himself. He cannot violate His word or His character. For instance, Hebrews 6:18 says, “It is impossible for God to lie.”
Will God Do It? Now, we have far less trouble believing that He can, than we do that He will. But, the answer to the question is, “Yes, He will!” He will when we come into the proper parameters of prayer, as He has instructed in His word. Those parameters are that we repent of any known sin (Is.59:1-2,) forgive anyone we have anything against (Mk.11:25-26,) be in proper relationship with our spouse (1Pe.3:7,) pray according to the will of God (1Jn.5:14-15,) and pray in faith (Mk.11:23-24.) There is no single verse in the Bible that says, “God is power,” eventhough the Bible certainly does teach that He has all power, but there is a verse that says, “God is love.” In Mt.8:2, a leper came to Jesus and said, “I know You can help me if You are willing.” Jesus said, “I will, be cleansed!” He will do it!
How Will He Do It? He has no limitations on the number of ways that He can do it. He will probably do it in a way that is far better than you could ever think of. When Gabriel told Mary she was going to conceive and bear the Christ child, she asked the question, “How shall these things be…?” She was told how it would happen, and it was in a way she could never have imagined. Think about how God has met your needs in times past. Isn’t He awesome?
